Life Coaching FAQ

Who hires a life coach?

Coaching is becoming increasingly popular because it is producing profound results in many people's lives.  P
eople from varying backgrounds come to life coaching for a variety of reasons and many people come to Inner Potential Coaching who are already very succesful, yet feel they would like something more out of life. Whatever your needs we can develop a coaching program to meet them.

How does life coaching work?

Life coaching begins with an awareness that every person is born with the ability to be, do or have, whatever they want in life. By the time we become adults, many of us have lost this ability.

All coaches at Inner Potential Coaching are trained to use powerful questions to access your inner potential to help you move forward.  We know that everyone has this inner potential, they just need to be asked the right questions.  The right questions take you to a deeper level of awareness and help you to see more clearly how you can get past obstacles to get to where you want to go

Studies have shown that the average person thinks appoximately 65,000 thoughts per day.  Of these 65,000 thoughts, about 95% are exactly the same thoughts that we had the day before.  When you are caught up in this cycle, it is very hard to move forward.  All our coaches are trained to use specific questions,  to break this cycle so that you can access the answers that are already within you. Before you can go anywhere, you have to know where you are starting from. Initially, your life coach will look at your present situation to help you clarify and help them understand what you want and need out of coaching. Your coach then provides the tools, structure, and support you need to create the life you desire.

During your coachng program, your coach will work with you to:

  1. Assess your current situation.
  2. Identify your values, life purpose and passions.
  3. Identify exactly what you want to achieve.
  4. Set specific goals and action steps to move you forward.
  5. Identify and break down any self-limiting beliefs that might stop you from achieving your goals.
  6. Maintain enthusiasm and accountability to make sure you continue to move forward.
  7. Celebrate your successes.

What will I have to do?

To get the best results out of life coaching, you will need to be willing to:

  • Answer the questions asked honestly
  • Look at things from a new perspective
  • Take appropriate action to create changes in your life

Your coach may also give you tasks to complete between coaching sessions that will compliment the work done in the coaching session and help to move you forward faster.

How often do you meet with your coach?

Typically, you meet with your life coach weekly or fortnightly, in person or on the phone. Your coach is available to you between sessions for brief phone calls and email exchanges, so you're supported whenever and however you need it.

Coaching programs start from a minimum of twelve sessions.  After twelve sessions, clients start to experience the full benefits that coaching has to offer and our experience has shown that clients who commit to a minimum of twelve coaching sessions achieve more success and create more permanent changes in their lives.  Clients often comment that after being coached for twelve weeks they start asking themselves more powerful questions and are able to continue to create changes in their lives long after their coaching program has finished.

All coaching conversations occur in a safe, supportive and caring environment and are strictly confidential.

How is life coaching different to talking to family and friends?

Life Coaching is far more effective than talking to your family or friends whose views are often clouded by their own issues and beliefs. Coaches are totally committed to each client but maintain an impartiality which allows them to clearly see the way forward. Coaches are trained in proven models and techniques that assist people to move forward.

How is life coaching different to counselling and therapy?

Counselling and therapy deal mainly with healing the past, whereas life coaching is about enhancing the present to create a more desirable future. Life coaching uses information from the past to clarify where a client is today but it does not depend on resolution of the past to move forward.

If it becomes apparent that a client needs counselling or therapy, they would be referred to a medical adviser.
